As a child I was into my finger paints—a dab of yellow—a dab of blue—and I discovered green—not to mention what I discovered when I mixed the primary red with blue—and then I went on to Crayola colors and to filling the forms of the characters in my coloring book. Cinderella’s hair was sometimes red or colored brown, and I never knew at that time that the hair color should have been yellow!
And in the 1960s I started painting with oils on canvas and I discovered my own world of Jackson Pollack—and in the 70s and 80s, I was preparing interior painting schemes for houses, cruise ships, resorts all over the world—I even selected paint colors and paint finishes for the White House and the Vice President’s Residence—as well as for embassies in different corners of the world.
The world of paints and water colors and pencil colors has always been with me and, now, I have the joy of compiling a collection of paint colors that I, and my company, Dorothy Draper & Co. Inc., have been using for so many years, in places, like the iconic Greenbrier Hotel at White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia, and at Michigan’s Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island, as well as many others.
